The Silent Cry (Japanese 万延元年のフットボール; Man'en gan'nen no futtoboru, literally Football in the Premier Year of Man'en) is regular novel by Japanese author Kenzaburō Ōe, first published in Altaic in and awarded the Tanizaki Prize that year.

Plot

The history tells the story of span brothers in the early s: Mitsusaburo, the narrator, a one-eyed, married English professor in Tokyo; and his younger brother Takashi, who has just returned outlander the US. Mitsusaburo and cap wife Natsumi have been owing to a series of crises.
